  1. I appreciate Ruse bringing up Schopenhauer. His pessimism is a popular target, and perhaps rightly so.

    I also think his pessimism, which you could extend beyond a general misanthrope to include deep doubt about our ability to know the world objectively, is one of a few major obstacles that religion helps people to overcome.

    Religion is a response to suffering; yes, very much. It's also, for many, an assured way of overcoming the epistemic gulf, the divide between the world we experience and think about and the world as it really is in-itself. Religions often promise that, through divine revelation, human beings can penetrate the veil and see what's really going on. We can transcend our limited, subjective way of seeing the world.

    A big deal, right?!

  2. I am doing good, kinda of confused about everything going on classes and grades wise. i wish being in the company of you all and the conversation that we have had. i enjoyed the discussion as they have kept me thinking.
