Here are a few excerpts from an interview with Alain de Botton, in which he says some weird things. Maybe he really is just pushing this atheist religion thing in some attempt to make money or sell books, because this doesn't make sense.
I agree, in this interview at least he's gone off the rails. But the most objectionable stuff, about the danger of atheists losing touch with their own rectitude, was there from the beginning. I don't think this is cynical pandering for $$$ on deB's part, just serious confusion. Still, he's an interesting (though increasingly marginal) voice on the atheist landscape.
As I've said before, I feel as though this dude just wants to be religious, but lost faith. It's like he's grasping for straws. I'm a little disappointed with the turn this is taking :/
