Beanballs and the Psychology of Revenge

In the spirit of Easter, here's a study that Dr. Oliver might enjoy about vicarious punishment.

  1. "The idea is we have to protect ourselves, we have to do something to respond to this act. The person we're targeting isn't morally responsible but the practical demands of the situation are such that we've got to do something and this is it."

  2. I'm ok with science determining human values, but I'm not sure I want it messing with my RELIGION!

Seriously, I've actually never been comfortable with the "honor culture" of the payback pitch. But Bob Gibson was my favorite player, and he was notorious for it.

Do I contradict myself? Very well. Walt Whitman (who was also a baseball fan) said that was ok.
